Solo (Djakarta News)- Sriwijaya FC won Indonesian Cup for the third consecutive time after beating Arema Malang 2-1 in the final on Sunday at Manahan Stadium Solo.

Sriwijaya won the Indonesian Cup for the third time on Sunday when the holders defeated Arema Malang to deny the Indonesia Super League champions a domestic double and ensure a successful end for out-going head coach Rahmad Darmawan who will pass the managerial reins of the Palembang side to Ivan Kolev.

The final represented Sriwijaya’s last chance at silverware in the 2009/10 season following Arema’s ISL success and their elimination form the 2010 AFC Cup at the Round of 16 stage.

Darmawan’s side were handed the numerical advantage with just 20 minutes gone when referee Jimmy Napitpulu red carded Singapore striker Noh Alam Shah after he appeared to kick former international team-mate Precious Emuerejaye while contesting a high ball.

It was a decision that prompted Central Java Police Chief Inspector General Alex Bambang Riatmodjo to demand that Napitpulu be replaced at half-time due to fear of a hostile crowd reaction, delaying the start of the second half by over an hour before play resumed with the original official still in charge of the match.

Three minutes into the second-half, veteran skipper Keith Gumbs put Sriwijaya one-up before another Singaporean international made a more positive contribution to the contest in the 72nd minute when former Tampines Rovers star Muhammad Ridhuan drew Arema level.

But Darmawan was not to be denied a victorious send off as Sriwijaya sealed the win seven minutes later through former Uzbekistan international Pavel Solomin.
