Bajaj ("Ba-jai")

Kekurangan:
-Diketahui sebagai sumber polusi di Jakarta.
-Suara mesin memekakkan telinga.

Bangunan Cagar Budaya Di Jakarta

Berikut sebagian foto-foto bangunan cagar budaya di Jakarta;

RI likely to send 320 athletes to Sea Games

Jakarta (ANTARAnews) - National Sports Committee (KONI) Chairwoman Rita Subowo said Indonesia plans to send 320 athletes to the SEA Games in Laos in December 2009.

"We are likely to send 320 athletes to the SEA Games in Laos this coming December. We will face tight competition because Vietnam and host Laos will send 800 athletes," Subowo said here on Tuesday.

Rita disclosed KONI`s plan when receiving Rp500 million in cash to pay athletes` bonuses from the president of the board of directors of the Center Management of the Bung Karno Sports Stadium in Senayan, Jakarta.

With 320 athletes participating in the SEA Games, Indonesia should strive to improve its achievements in the SEA Games because Indonesia only ranked fourth in the 2007 SEA Games in Nakhon Naratchima Thailand, Rita said.

"We continue maximizing the quantity and quality of athletes to be sent as well as the amount of assistance funds from the government," she said.

Talking about the welfare of athletes, Rita said athletes in foreign countries receive financial assistance from the government prior to their "retirement" as athletes. For example, they received a subsidy of US$1,500 for grabbing a gold medal, US$1,000 for wining silver and US$750 for bronze.

Rita expressed appreciation for funds contributed by the president r of the board of directors of the Center Management of the Bung Karno Sports Stadium, Bambang Prajitno, on Monday.

It was proof of the government`s attention to athletes, she said.

"We should show a high spirit any time we compete in an international event. The important point is that we should focus on the preparation of our athletes. The funds from the management of the Bung Karno Sports Stadium constitute a big contribution for athletes who are scattered everywhere," she added.

Six kangaroos arrive in Jakarta from Australia

Jakarta(ANTARAnews)- Six female grey kangaroos arrived in Jakarta on Saturday evening after a 18-hour flight from Perth, Australia.

The Indonesian Safari Park (TSI) in Cisarua, Bogor, West Java province, received the animals from the Australian Zoo.

The kangaroos were accompanied by three Australian Zoo`s staff members, namely Dr Tim Potas, Lauire Pond and Kelsey, and were greeted by Cisarua TSI Director Tony Sumampau upon their arrival in Jakarta.

They would be placed in a quarantine area for a week for adaptation before they could be seen by the public, Tony Sumampau said.

TSI got the kangaroos based on a sister park cooperation agreement with the Australian Zoo several years ago when the Zoo was headed by Steve Irwin "Crocodile Hunter" and his wife Terri Raines.

The naturalist and television star Steve Irwin (44) died in a diving accident in far north Queensland in September 2009. Police said he was stung through the heart by a stingray while diving off Port Douglas.

"So, it was the Australian Zoo which recommended that Indonesia should get kangaroos," Sumampau said.

The six kangaroos are part of a total of 15 kangaroos to be given to Indonesia.

The Kangaroo is a common marsupial from the islands of Australia and New Guinea. However, scientists have also found a species of kangaroos in Papua, Indonesia.

There are 47 species of "roos." Kangaroos can hop up to 40 miles per hour (74 kph) and go over 30 feet (9 m) in one hop. These shy animals live about 6 years in the wild and up to 20 in captivity.

Most roos are nocturnal (active at night). Many roos are in danger of extinction, but they are also considered pests due to the way they damage crops. An adult male is called a buck, boomer or jack; an adult female is called a doe, flyer, roo, or jill. A baby is called a joey. A group of roos is called a mob.

Kawasan Glodok

Glodok merupakan kawasan perdagangan yang sangat sibuk setiap hari.Kawasan Glodok yang berada di sekitar jalan Hayam Wuruk terdapat tempat-tempat perdagangan yang sangat ramai, dari pagi sampai sore, secara sekilas diantaranya yaitu;
-Pasar Glodok : tempat perdagangan dari barang elektronik, alat kedokteran, obat-obatan di daerah pancoran, dll.
-Jalan Pinangsia: tempat perdagangan berbagai macam asesoris bangunan, kamarmandi, toilet, dan segala macam asesoris kunci.
-Glodok Plasa: tempat perdagangan segala macam barang elektronik, komputer hardware, software(bajakan, hehehe),asesoris komputer, dll.

3.Tawarlah harga semurah mungkin tapi masih wajar.

Chris John looking to promote batik in the ring

Jakarta(The Jakarta Post)- Indonesian boxer Chris John says he wants to round out his representation of the country the next time he steps into the ring for future title defenses.

The undefeated WBA featherweight champion says he is looking to promote batik as Indonesian cultural heritage by wearing a batik-style fighting robe.
On Friday, UNESCO declared batik an intangible cultural heritage from Indonesia.

"Why not design a batik robe? It'll look great, won't it?" Chris told The Jakarta Post on Friday in his hometown of Semarang.
"This is what I can do to promote batik. During my title defense, I'll wear batik in true Indonesian style."

Chris last defended his title in a rematch against Rocky Juarez in Las Vegas on Sept. 19, notching up his 43rd win (22 by KO) from 45 matches.
Chris said he wore batik from Banjarmasin at a press conference ahead of the Juarez fight.
"Our trip was part of the Visit Indonesia promotional campaign," he explained. "Next time I'll wear batik all the way to the ring."

Chris is taking a well-deserved break in Semarang with his wife, Anna Maria Megawati, and their two daughters, after the gruelling Juarez fight that represented his 12th straight successful title de-fense.
"I still need time to heal the inner injuries," Chris said.
"I'm doing light training to maintain my condition."

Chris was rocked by a final-round flurry from Juarez, but hung on for the unanimous decision, thanks to his early-round domination.
He said it was one of toughest fights yet.
"His pounces are powerful, I don't know what I was doing trading blows in the last round," he said.
"I was fortunate not to fall. Otherwise the points I'd collected would've meant nothing. God shone his favor on me once again.

"My coach had told me to keep my distance from Juarez because I was winning on points. But I really wanted to knock him, and he proved to have good stamina."
Chris said he had no idea yet who to take on next.
"I have to talk about it with the team. I don't fear whoever I meet in the ring, including those from other world boxing bodies," he said.

Saran Untuk Bus Transjakarta

Hanya saran saja sih he he..walaupun keseharian saya masih selalu pakai motor.

Jakarta still charms job seekers

Jakarta(The Jakarta Post)- Banners are strung across Senen Station in Central Jakarta, warning newcomers that working in the capital requires compliance with rules and skills. They also suggest they go back and live simple lives in their hometowns and villages.
This year, 200,000 newcomers are expected to join the city's hustle and bustle, up from 88,500 during the post-Idul Fitri holiday influx in 2008. In 2007, 109,000 newcomers were recorded. In response, the city administration conducts yearly raids to weed out and send home those without the proper documents. This year's raids are expected to kick off two weeks after the Idul Fitri celebration, or early next week.

Paulus Wirutomo, director of the Jakarta Society Reforms Organization (LPMJ), says the raids will be useless in curbing urbanization because most newcomers have calculated the economic risks of staying in their underdeveloped regions.
"There's nothing wrong with urbanization," he says.
"It's normal in developing countries. The problem here, though, is that the urbanization pattern focuses on certain big cities, especially Jakarta."
Paulus calls the influx into Jakarta "over migration", adding the number of people working in the city is far greater than its capacity.
At night, the city's 661.52 square kilometers house more than 9.1 million people, according to 2008 data from the Jakarta office of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS).
During the daytime, those ranks are swelled by another 3 million people, who commute from the many satellite cities orbiting the capital.

The migration, Paulus says, is caused by a push factor, where people in rural areas are denied an adequate living, and a pull factor, in which big cities offer lucrative opportunities to make a living.
In Jakarta, he goes on, the pull factor has gradually diminished because of the myriad problems at play, including the high unemployment rate and lack of affordable housing.

Besides the notorious traffic jams, the city also has to deal with a plethora fires during the dry season and flooding during the rainy season.
There are now more than 590,000 unemployed people in Jakarta, according to data from the city's manpower agency. In 2008, 8.3 percent of the working-age population were jobless.
Manpower agency head Deded Sukandar says his office has laid out strict conditions in issuing so-called "yellow cards" - which allow job seekers to apply for government jobs - including copies of valid Jakarta ID and family cards.
The rules are in force, he says, to limit employment opportunities to only those residents with a Jakarta ID card.
"It's clear Jakarta doesn't need more formal-sector workers, except for certain positions in companies that need university graduates to be placed outside the city," he says.
He adds private companies are not obliged to demand job applicants have a yellow card; but a good company, he goes on, makes it a prerequisite, thus allowing a proper check of the applicant's qualifications and whether they still work at another company. Deded admits the yellow-card strategy has little effect in reducing the number of migrants pouring into the city to work in the informal sector.
"People who come after Idul Fitri mostly work in the informal sector, as street vendors or domestic servants," he says.

"Most of them aren't skilled workers."

He says the annual influx of unskilled workers into Jakarta will only add to the city's already-high unemployment rate.
The agency, Deded says, is struggling to reduce the number of jobless people by increasing the capacity of its training centers for work skills (BLK), aimed at churning out skillful workers in various fields, including automotive, languages, IT and food and beverage.
This year, the agency is looking to put out 6,000 graduates from it BLKs, up from 4,500 last year.
"We're also working closely with retailers to supply them with vocational school graduates to work as interns," Deded says.
One of the agency's training centers, in Pasar Rebo, East Jakarta, provides a free three-month training course for locals and migrants alike, funded as it is by the city and the government.
Paulus says the main reason for the capital's over-migration problem is its role as the country's center for a lot of industries and sector, including manufacturing, education and tourism.
Many people are forced to head to Jakarta to pursue their dreams, he goes on, because little else beckons beyond the capital.
"I believe some of these industries and sectors must be centered in other cities, otherwise people from across the country will keep coming here every year ," Paulus says.
"This requires strong political will from the government and the city administration to farm out the city's wealth to other cities."
He points out the government can provide incentives to investors to build factories in rural areas, and disincentive for those building factories in the city.
He adds the government should also reduce rural regions' dependency on Jakarta by improving infrastructure there to spur economic growth.

Pope warns of 'new colonialism'

Jakarta(BBC News)- Pope Benedict has warned that a form of colonialism continues to blight Africa.

Opening a three-week synod of African bishops, he said political colonialism was over.
But he said the developed world continued to export materialism - which he called "toxic spiritual rubbish" - to the continent.
Almost 200 bishops from 53 African states have gathered to discuss how the Catholic Church can help resolve the continent's social injustices and wars.
The Pope says he will attend as many of the working sessions of the synod as possible, his other duties permitting.
African treasures

Unaccustomed rhythms of Africa filled the huge St Peter's Basilica in Rome, as Pope Benedict formally opened the special synod, reports the BBC's David Willey in Rome.
A choir from the Democratic Republic of Congo sang hymns in the Kikongo and Lingala languages, and prayers were also said in Swahili, Portuguese, Amharic, Hausa and Arabic.
Pope Benedict praised Africa's rich cultural and spiritual treasures, caling them a "spiritual lung" for the world.
But he said the continent was afflicted by an export of the "so-called 'first world'... [the] toxic spiritual rubbish" of materialism.
"In this context, the political colonialism is never finished," the Pope said.
He said Africa also suffered increasing religious fundamentalism, in the form of religious groups which "act on behalf of God" but "teach intolerance and violence".

'Talking shop'

The Pope said evangelisation was "urgent" in Africa - though the Catholic Church is already growing faster there than in any other part of the world, nearly trebling in size to 150 million followers over 30 years.
This will be the second synod of bishops organised at the Vatican to be devoted specifically to the problems of Africa.
The first took place in 1994 at the very moment when the Rwandan genocide was beginning, but turned out to be little more than a talking shop, our correspondent says.
Among the experts invited by the Pope to address the synod - which has only advisory powers - will be the former head of the joint UN/African Union peacekeeping mission in Darfur.
A small number of women religious have also been invited to attend.
