Pertamina expecting net profit of Rp21 tln

Jakarta (Djakarta News - ANTARA News) - State oil and gas company Pertamina said it was optimistic its net profit would reach Rp21 trillion until the end of 2011 or higher than the company`s target of Rp17.7 trillion for this year.

Until the third quarter of 2011, the company posted a net profit of Rp19.45 trillion, Pertamina spokesman M Harun said here on Friday.

"We are optimistic that the figure will exceed Rp21 trillion at the end of this year," he said.

The projected profit was higher than the target of Rp17.7 trillion set under the company`s business plan of 2011, he said.

He noted that a number of factors including oil price, gas production, aviation fuel sales, and lubricant sales had exceeded their respective target set under the business plan, leading to the increase in the net profit.

"The other factor is the company`s efficiency program which was running well," he said.

He predicted that oil price until the end of this year would hover above US$110 a barrel, well above the company`s target of US$80 a barrel set in the business plan.

He said the company`s gas production until the end of 2011 was projected to reach 1,510 million metric standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd), higher than the target of 1,450 mmscfd.

"On the other hand, lubricant exports are predicted to exceed 200,000 kiloliters," he said.

He said Pertamina was expected to spend up to Rp408.6 trillion from 2011 to 2014 to achieve the oil production target of 1 million barrels per day.

The fund would originate from both internal and external sources, he said.

In 2011, Pertamina issued two series of global bonds worth US$1.5 billion. "But the bonds were 7 and 10 times oversubscribed," he said.

Garuda Indonesia shares slump 20% on debut

Jakarta (BBC News – Djakarta News) - Shares of Garuda Indonesia, the country's national airline, have fallen more than 20% on their market debut.

Garuda shares were trading at close to 600 rupiah on the Indonesia Stock Exchange, down from their 750 rupiah listing price.

Analysts said the listing price was too high, and the sale has come at a time when emerging stocks markets are under pressure.

There are also fears about the earnings outlook for airlines this year.

"It's just bad timing and a higher valuation even scared off retail investors," said Bayburs Alfaris, a trader at Kim Eng Securities.

Risk averse

Many of Asia's stock markets have been under pressure this year as the unrest in Egypt, high oil prices and fears about inflation prompted investors to move money from emerging markets.

This negative sentiment has been brewing for months and limited demand for the Garuda share sale.

Out of the 6.3 billion shares on offer, just over half were taken up by investors. Banks and underwriters were left with the rest.

At the same time, there are concerns that oil prices of close to $100 a barrel and weak consumer demand will limit services such as air travel.

Implementation of Fuel Restriction Postponed to March 2011

Jakarta (Djakarta News – RRI News)-Lawmakers decided to postpone the implementation of fuel restriction by March 2011. The final decision is approved by eight factions at the House of Representatives (DPR).

Commission VII demanded the government to complete study over fuel control in line with Law No.10/2010 on 2011 State Budget.

Seven out of eight factions nodded to the decision. On the other hand, one faction, the Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), disapproved against the idea due to lack of comprehensive studies.

PDIP viewed that Article 7 section 2c of Law No.10/2010 on 2011 State Budget obligates the government to set up a study over the issue. As a result, the Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle requested further analysis over fuel control of which result will be brought before the next session.

The Democratic Party Faction said yes to the policy as long as transportation sector is subject to more improvements.

Indonesia to Further Develop its Coffee Plantations

Jakarta (ANTARA News – Djakarta News) - To maintain its position as the world`s biggest coffee producer, Indonesia is to reverse a decline in production by seriously developing its coffee plantations starting next year.

"Coffee is also a strategic commodity in our rural economy. Therefore, we will include coffee in the plantation revitalization program next year," Agriculture Minister Suswono said on Saturday.

In an effort to develop and increase coffee production in the country, the Ministry of Agriculture will include coffee as one of the commodities to be prioritized in the plantation revitalization program next year.

So far, only three agricultural commodities have been included in the country`s plantation revitalization program, namely oil palm, rubber and cacao.

The inclusion of coffee in the plantation revitalization priority program, is expected to raise coffee farmers` income and the country`s earnings from coffee exports which of late have been declining. According to Minister Suswono, coffee is one of the commodities which are seen to have a good chance to be developed. After all, 90 percent of coffee plantations in the country belong to smallholders.

Based on data provided by the directorate general of plantations, national coffee productivity was still low, namely only about 700 kg per hectare per annum. This figure constituted 60 percent of the real productivity potential.

The ministry of agriculture recorded that Indonesia`s coffee plantation area this year was 1.31 million hectares, consisting of 1.07 million hectares (82 percent) planted with robusta and 241,548 hectares (18 percent) with Arabica coffee.

Of the total plantation acreage, about 96 percent belonged to smallholders, two percent to private firms and the other two percent to state firms.

As Indonesia`s Arabica coffee is quite popular in the world market, the government will focus on the development of Arabica coffee. This type of coffee had contributed 30 percent to national coffee production so that it is expected to increase in the future.

"It is also expected to increase national bio diversity and natural resources," the minister said.

So far, according to Suswono, Indonesia`s Arabica coffee had already been popular and liked in the world market with various types of products such as Toraja coffee, Gayo coffee, Mandailing coffee, Kintamani coffee, Flores coffee or Java coffee.

Yet, the government will also continue to develop its other coffee type, namely Robusta one, whose plantations are mostly cultivated by smallholders. The efforts must be made to improve the quality of smallholders` Robusta coffee. Among the efforts to be made included rejuvenation, diversification and integration of coffee plantation and cow farming.

All this will be made as Indonesia`s coffee production is declining at home due to various reasons. Yet, the Indonesian Coffee Exporters Association (AEKI) expressed optimism that Indonesia`s coffee export target set at 325,000 tons worth US$650 million could be achieved even though coffee production in coffee producing provinces is declining.

"In the middle of this year, the volume of Indonesia`s coffee exports reached 200,000 tons with a value of US$325 million. I am confident the export target is achievable," AEKI executive secretary Rachim Kartabrata said recently.

However, he said, Indonesia`s coffee export volumes this year were expected to drop from 400,000 tons worth US$773 million per annum to 325,000 tons valued at US$650 million.

Kartabrata said that the decline of Indonesia`s coffee exports was due to the fact that coffee production in the region was declining while stocks gathered last year were not exported.

Indonesia`s traditional coffee export markets for Robusta included Japan, Latin American countries, South Africa and Europe, while for Arabica was exported to Germany and the United States.

Indonesia`s competitors for Robusta are Brazil, Columbia, Mexico, Costa Rica and El Salvador. Its competitor for Robusta is Vietnam. "Vietnam is the biggest Robusta coffee exporter in Asia while the Latin American countries were big exporters of Arabica coffee because they grow coffee plantations 1,000 meters above the sea levels," Karbarata said.

Indonesia`s Robusta coffee is produced by the provinces of Bengkulu, South Sulawesi and Lampung while the Arabica type by Aceh and North Sumatra. "About 80 percent of Indonesia`s coffee exports are those of the Robusta type while the remainders are Arabica," Kartabrata said.

In efforts to expand its coffee export market, Indonesia has asked Germany to jointly develop common markets, especially for technological and agricultural products such as palmoil, coffee and cocoa.

Indonesian Deputy Agriculture Minister Bayu Krisnamurti made the statement after speaking before more than 150 German businessmen in a seminar held as part of an "Indonesia Business Day" recently.

He emphasized the importance of partnership as a key to cooperation between Indonesia and Germany. "As one of the strongest economies in Europe with increasing consumers` demand Germany needs the right partner to cooperate with," he said.

Indonesia with more than 225 million population has been known as one of the three countries that made a positive growth in 2009 and could be one of the right partners for Germany, he said.

The world most populous country China is also a target for the country?s coffee exports. Indonesia recently took part in the Shanghai World Expo 2010, where, during the promotion event, it organized a drink coffee ritual program to attract Chinese consumers.

"We have chosen a special stand for Indonesian original coffee and it has attracted quite many numbers of buyers. Hundreds of glasses of coffee could be offered every day," Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu said.

According to trade ministry data, Indonesia`s coffee exports to China from January to April 2010 reached US$0.53 million, up 31.3 percent from the same period last year.
In 2009, the country`s total coffee exports to China reached US$2.3 million.

Deputy Finance Minister Bayu Krisnamurthi said that Indonesia was aiming at young Chinese coffee consumers whose market share was expected to reach 350 million people.

RI should make ASEAN more economy-oriented

Jakarta (ANTARA News – Djakarta News) - Under Indonesia`s leadership, ASEAN should be made more economy-oriented in preparation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC)`s platform without abandoning its traditional three pillars, an observer said. "As chairman of ASEAN, Indonesia will have a big opportunity to determine the direction of ASEAN cooperation," Adriana Elisabeth, a researcher at the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), told ANTARA News in an interview, on Monday.

She was asked for her comments after President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said at a press conference when he was in Hanoi attending 17th ASEAN Summit last week that Indonesia would work on a declaration on ASEAN`s commitment on world affairs and play a more active role in the creation of a fair and prosperous new global order. The declaration will be brought to the 18th ASEAN summit in Bali, said President Yudhoyono after Vietnam handed over the ASEAN chair to Indonesia.

Elisabeth said ASEAN member countries had set themselves the target of realizing the ASEAN community by 2015, therefore the three pillars of ASEAN, namely politics-security, economy and socio-culture, needed optimum and simultaneous progress in their implementation as they were interconnected. "However, in my opinion, based on the president`s explanations yesterday, Indonesia should prepare a master plan for ASEAN`s economic development as a way for realizing the ASEAN Economic Community," Elisabeth said, adding that the plan should include revitalizing the sub-regional cooperation schemes such as the Sijori (Singapore-Johor-Riau) growth triangle.

This approach would need an integrated land and sea infrastructure to accelerate economic relations between the member states and their communication, she said. Elisabeth said there were several growth triangles, besides Sijori, namely Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand (IMT-GT), Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippine East Asia Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA). In facing global challenges, Elisabeth said, ASEAN needed to revise its elitist character and make itself popular among its own peoples. This could be done through making down-to-earth programs aimed at elevating the prosperity levels in the region.

Elisabeth said Indonesia, as chairman of ASEAN, could help Papua New Guinea to become a full member of ASEAN and be able to make considerations bearing in mind the diversity of interests, political-cultural system and level of economic growth and threats faced by ASEAN member countries. She said if Papua New Guinea could get full membership, ASEAN would ethnically become more diversified.

Pertamina Keeps On Supplying Fuel to Mentawai Islands

(RRI News – Djakarta News) - State oil and gas company PT Pertamina keeps on supplying fuel to Mentawai Islands at the post-tsunami situation. Pertamina also goes out for helping the disaster area by deploying volunteers and distributing aid.

Pertamina Corporate Communications Vice President, Muhammad Harun, said prior to the disaster, fuel supply has been fulfilled through one premium fuel, kerosene and diesel fuel agent (APMS) of which allocation is 200 kiloliters of premium fuel and 112 kiloliters of diesel fuel per month.

Harun said that to meet the demands of premium and diesel fuel in Mentawai Islands, Pertamina sends barges from Teluk Kabung fuel tanks to APMS which contain 10 kiloliters of premium fuel and 15 kiloliters of diesel fuel.

Pertamina also announced its plan to ship 11 kiloliters of premium fuel, 2 kiloliters of diesel fuel, and 20 kiloliters of kerosene on October 29.

Poor infrastructure curbs Indonesian growth

Jakarta (BBC News – Djakarta News)

In a small factory on the outskirts of Jakarta, signs of Indonesia's economic rise are everywhere to see.

Rows of young men and women, neatly dressed in their bright blue uniforms, are sitting at their work-stations, hammering out hundreds of pairs of shoes a day.

Just five months ago, these Levi's shoes were manufactured in China. Today they are being produced right here, in a factory on the outskirts of Jakarta.

The recent labour unrest in China has made Indonesia a more attractive destination for foreign firms, and lower salaries for workers is also a big draw.

According to recent statistics, Indonesian workers make about $120 (£75) a month. These days, that compares well with steadily rising Chinese wages, which have gone up 20% this year alone.

Beating china

But it has not always been like this in Indonesia - and not many knows more about that than Achmad Marendes, the manager at the Prima Inreksa plant.

His factory has been operating in this suburb of Jakarta for the last few years.

He remembers a time when the economic environment was not so rosy - and when Indonesian companies were feeling the pinch because of China's competitive advantage.

"Four or five years ago, there were a lot of factories that closed down around here," he says during a tour of the factory.

"We definitely saw a slowdown because of China"

Today, though, Mr Marendes admits he has never had it so good.

"We used to have about one or two visits a month from foreign companies," he says.

"Now we're getting five visitors a month from potential buyers, so that's a very good sign.

"And they're all companies from the US, UK, Korea or Japan. They were doing business with China, but now they want to move their business here. That's good for us."

Port hold-ups

Orders for shoes have doubled at his factory recently, so Mr Marendes is planning to hire another 1,000 people to cope with the extra work.

But there is a problem - one that's standing in the way of his future success. Meeting production deadlines are a daily headache because of inefficiencies at the local port.

Much of the raw materials used in the shoes produced at this factory come from overseas, so hold-ups at the port cost him time and money.

"We have a lot of imports from Korea and China, specifically the leather and synthetic materials," he says.

"Sometimes it takes up to a week for our goods to be delivered to our factory after they've arrived at the port in Jakarta.

"There are a lot of inefficiencies there. I'd love to see that waiting time be cut down to seven days, but who knows when that will happen. Currently that's the biggest problem for manufacturers like me."

Slow development

Ports are a crucial part of the Indonesian economy.

It is thought that 80% of this country's international trade is transported by sea.

But they have not kept up with the pace of growth in the country.

Businesses complain that despite repeated assurances from the government, there have been no signs of matching those assurances with investment in infrastructure.

As a result, many of the ports in the country are dilapidated, crumbling and notoriously slow.

The Indonesian government is trying to change the image of Indonesia's ports.

It has appointed RJ Lino as the man tasked with the challenge of upgrading the facilities at its biggest port, Tanjung Priok, in Jakarta.

He used to work there 20 years ago so he knows what it used to be like.

"Twenty years ago, Tanjung Priok was a very good port," he says as he shows off the operations in the sprawling complex.

"We were only behind Singapore and Japan.

"That was when I used to work here, but then I left. Now I've come back to find that most of the facilities I built haven't changed. There's been very little development."

Investment required

But Mr Lino has ambitious plans to change all of that.

On the agenda is a new container terminal at Tanjung Priok, one that he says will match international standards.

"We will start building by the end of the year and it will take six or seven years to complete the entire project," he says.

He will need international cooperation to help build the new terminal, though, and the whole investment will cost up to $2-3bn £1.25-1.88bn).

Indonesia's government is looking for $160bn in foreign investment to upgrade its infrastructure, and that money cannot come soon enough.

It is not just Indonesia's ports that are suffering from a lack of investment. The roads, highways and bridges are also in a state of disrepair.

The government has said it will increase spending on infrastructure by up to a third next year, but many are sceptical about whether that will be enough - and whether the projects will actually get off the ground.

Infrastructure projects in Indonesia often face long delays before they get underway, due to unwieldy bureaucracy and complicated laws.

Vicious cycle

The lack of investment in infrastructure has many consequences, and not just for Indonesian businesses.

Yusuf is a deliveryman for a local factory.

He is used to spending hours on the roads, stuck in Jakarta's infamous gridlock.

It is thought the traffic jams alone cost businesses in Jakarta $1bn a year in lost time and fuel.

Yusuf says the hours he wastes sitting in traffic have an impact on his salary and therefore his ability to feed his family.

"When the roads are bad, they have to close down some lanes so it creates a jam," he says as he tries to manoeuvre his way through the maze of vehicles on the streets.

"When there's a jam, a trip that I can make in one hour takes twice as long. And so the goods don't get delivered on time."

It is a vicious cycle - and one that hurts Indonesia's poor the hardest.

Millions of this country's most vulnerable are living a hand-to-mouth existence.

They are counting on their government to improve their prospects.

Before Indonesia can join the ranks of India and China, it needs to make sure that its citizens climb up and out of this poverty for its economy to stay on track.

Indonesia`s economic growth rate may exceed six percent

(ANTARA News - Djakarta News) - The Indonesian economy could record a growth rate of over six percent in the third quarter of 2010 on the back of government and household spending, the national statistics agency said.

"It could be over six percent stimulated by government and the public`s expenditures," Rusman Heriawan, head of the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), said here Monday evening.

The Ramadhan fasting month and Idul Fitri Islamic festivity would be significantly contributing to economic growth as household consumption would rise significantly during the season.

Government expenditures in the first and second quarters usually contribute negatively to growth but in the third and fourth quarters it would be different.

He said the 2010 budget was bigger than the previous year`s. Although government expenditures in the first and second quarters were low, they were expected to increase in the third and fourth quarters, Rusman said.

The country`s exports would also contribute to growth, despite a slowing down in July 2010. August`s export figure was expected to be another big boost.

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Agus Martowardojo said the government had not yet
revised the economic growth target in the 2010 State Budget.

The economic growth target in the 2010 State Budget was set at 5.8 percent but in the second quarter actual growth was recorded at 6.2 percent and in the first quarter at 5.9 percent.

Agus said he was optimistic national economic growth this year would exceed 5.9 percent.

Uang Logam Baru Pecahan Rp 1.000

Pasar Tradisional vs Pasar Modern

    * Lindeteves Trade Center (LTC-Glodok)
    * ITC Permata Hijau
    * ITC Roxy Mas
    * Lokasari Plaza
    * Mall Ciputra (d/h Citraland Mall)

    * Kelapa Gading Hypermall

Glodok merupakan kawasan perdagangan yang sangat sibuk setiap hari.Kawasan Glodok yang berada di sekitar jalan Hayam Wuruk terdapat tempat-tempat perdagangan yang sangat ramai, dari pagi sampai sore, secara sekilas diantaranya yaitu;
-Pasar Glodok : tempat perdagangan dari barang elektronik, alat kedokteran, obat-obatan di daerah pancoran, dll.
-Jalan Pinangsia: tempat perdagangan berbagai macam asesoris bangunan, kamarmandi, toilet, dan segala macam asesoris kunci.
-Glodok Plasa: tempat perdagangan segala macam barang elektronik, komputer hardware, software(bajakan, hehehe),asesoris komputer, dll.

3.Tawarlah harga semurah mungkin tapi masih wajar.
