Film Festival "Australia on Screen" 2011 being held in Jakarta


Jakarta (Djakarta News-ANTARA News) - Celebrated Indonesian actress and producer Christine Hakim and Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Greg Moriarty launched the latest Australian Embassy Film Festival Australia on Screen 2011 in Jakarta on Wednesday.

A media release from Australian Embassy on its official website said Moriarty was delighted they were able to celebrate Australia Day with the launch of such an exciting line-up of Australian films, demonstrating Australia`s cultural and artistic innovation and talent.

"It is a great honor to also acknowledge Christine Hakim being recently awarded the APSA 2010 FIAPF Award for Outstanding Achievement in Film at the recent Asia Pacific Screen Awards Ceremony in Australia. The award was a fitting reminder of the exceptional work and progress she has achieved over the years in Indonesian film," Moriarty said.

Held at Blitzmegaplex, Grand Indonesia from January 26-28, 2011, the Festival features award-winning Australian films that present film reflecting the country`s unique blend of established Indigenous traditions and new influences.

Opening with the internationally acclaimed Bran Nue Dae, loosely based on the musical with the same name and directed by prominent Australian director Rachel Perkins and producers Robyn Kershaw and Graeme Isaac, the star studded cast includes among others, renowned singer Jessica Mauboy, Academy Award winner Geoffrey Rush and Indigenous Australian actor Rocky McKenzie.

Robyn Kershaw and Rocky McKenzie have both been hosted by the Australian Embassy and the West Australian Government to come to Indonesia to promote Bran Nue Dae and the film festival.

During their visit they will participate in a number of workshops with Indonesian film professionals and film students and be exposed to Indonesia`s rich cultural heritage and how different cultures are reflected through film.

The festival will also feature the films Jindabyne, Radiance, Lantana, Mary and Max, Looking for Alibrandi and Ned Kelly.

Australia on Screen 2011 is sponsored by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in cooperation with the Australia International Cultural Council and Screen Australia with support from the Government of Western Australia.

Fly Over Tubagus Angke Telah Dilewati Kendaraan Roda Dua

Jakarta (Djakarta News)- Pembangunan fly over Tubagus Angke sudah berjalan sekitar satu tahun. Pembangunannya telah dimulai dari Januari 2010, dan diperkirakan selesai selama satu tahun. Berarti akan selesai awal tahun 2011 ini.

Jalan yang merupakan penghubung daerah Jembatan Lima dan Jembatan Dua ini, kemacetan masih terasa parah, tetapi sedikit berkurang karena khusus kendaraan bermotor roda dua sudah diperbolehkan melewati fly over tersebut.

Bagi pengendara kendaraan roda dua bisa dikatakan tidak mengalami kemacetan yang parah. Kemungkinan ini diberlakukan untuk uji coba jembatan layang (fly over) bagi kendaraan roda dua.

Dengan demikian tidak lama lagi fly over Angke akan selesai dan bisa dilewati oleh kendaraan roda empat seperti mobil, bus, dan truk sehingga transportasi yang begitu ramai di kawasan itu bisa menjadi lancar.

Former Indonesian Migrant Worker in Saudi Arabia Becomes A Lecturer

(Djakarta News – RRI News) - Former Indonesian migrant worker in Saudi Arabia, Nuryati Sulapari, has successfully realized her dream as a lecturer which can make people consider the presence of migrant workers a positive thing, a sociologist, Badaruddin.

The sociologist from the University of North Sumatra (USU) said here Wednesday that the success of Nuryati needed to become a model for other Indonesian migrant workers.

Moreover, he said, the success of Nuryati also brought good image for Indonesia. It was rare so that it should be promoted to encourage other migrant workers, especially in Saudi Arabia.

Because, he said, so far people considered them as second rate persons that could be treated badly by their employers. But instead, what Nuryati had experienced of getting her bachelor`s degree while working as migrant worker in Saudi Arabia was a great success.

Her Arabian boss was so kind because of paying her wages on time and permitting her conduct her study, and the success of Nuryati was also caused by her boss` support.

Therefore, the Saudi Arabia government awarded Nuryati for her achievement and hard work in reaching the bachelor`s degree.

In the past the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Jakarta on behalf of the government delivered an award to Nuryati Sulapari as her achievement in finishing her study and now become a lecturer.

Arabian Deputy to Indonesia Majed Abdulaziz Al-Dayel gave the award, Tuesday (28/12) in an event attended by an official of Manpower and Transmigration Ministry Abdul Wahid Maktub.

"Ms. Nuryati is a hero and she deserved the award for her persistence," Al-Dayel said in his remark.
